Wale Warriors, the sequel to Shark heroes, is now in the works! Here are some images and the eye of a young humpback whale in Australia, photographed by the talented underwater photographer Rachel Moore, a few weeks before the same humpback whale was fatally struck by a ship. This is one of the greatest threats facing whales today—well, and overfishing of their food supply, all the noise pollution beneath the ocean surface, and yes, of course, the plastic, the ghost nets... All in all, it's almost a miracle to arrive alive in Antarctica for a bite of krill.
I've always wanted to be a whale, but that wouldn't be the best life these days. That's another reason why I wrote this book, or rather, the first. To make things a little better for the whales, and ultimately for us as well. Because without whales, we're nowhere. Also: What's our planet without wildlife? Without whales?
Photographer Rachel Moore: "This moment of eye contact was beyond my wildest dreams. I’ve never encountered a whale like this one, and it was the most profoundly beautiful experience of my life."
